Browns, Cambridge

A week or so ago, my blogger besties and I were invited* to Browns in Cambridge to try their menu and see their gorgeous restyling – and it was an amazing event!

As we arrived, we were asked to go to the “cocktail station” (easily my favourite kind of station) to try out their range of drinks. I went for the rhubarb and cucumber collins, which was delicious – light and bubbly and very more-ish.

At our table, we went for the sharing platers – the Browns Sharing Platter (chicken lollipops, salt & pepper squid, prawn cocktail, beetroot houmous, pulled pork & pig cheek crostini) and the Fisherman’s platter (Severn & Wye smoked salmon, salt & pepper squid, Devon crab on toast, British mussels, warm toasted bread). There was also an amazing-sounding lamb platter but being the pescatarian dick I am, we all went for the ones with the fishy options instead.

The beetroot hummous was SO GOOD, and the squid was ridiculously addictive.

The Fisherman’s Platter was my favourite, though, having all my favourite things – salmon and mussels. The salmon was fresh and melted on the tongue.

For my main, I went for the sea bass (On a stew of prawns, mussels, squid, heritage potatoes, tomato, fennel & white wine sauce). It was really lovely, and had, again, my favourite mussels! I did, however, take a number of envious glances to my meat-eating friends around me…

I pinched a truffle oil chip topped with Parmesan cheese, because with these within reach, who wouldn’t??

The surprising thing was the value for money. The prices of the meals were very reasonable, and the quality of the food was top notch. Combined with the gorgeous location, it really is a great place to eat.

Desserts were an obvious choice. While the trio of chocolate did look lovely…

…my banoffee pie had POPPING CANDY on it and so was the winner. POPPING CANDY, GUYS.

Following the event, we all went home with smiles on our faces and delicious food in our bellies – what better way could a Thursday evening be spent?

Browns Cambridge can be found at 23 Trumpington Street,Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB2 1QA

We were treated to way too much food and way too much drink, but as always all opinions are my own.
