Friday Links June 6th

It’s been a really tough week for me. Not only has the move been pretty hard, but with some other kinda pants things happening too, it’s making me want to fly back to Germany and crawl into bed with the kittens again.

I’m really happy to be starting this YouTube project with my friend Danni though. She has a cold now so her reply video will be here in a bit, but I am on the edge of my seat with excitement.

BUT we always have LINKIES!

Mario Kart 8 came out this week and the world has been going crazy of Luigi’s death stare. If you have no idea what the gif at the top means, have a look at this Kotaku article that explains everything.

Yes, we’ve heard a lot about the shootings in America and the #YESALLWOMEN stuff. I’ve had too many conversations on Facebook explaining sexism 101 to different guys but will never tire of trying to get people to understand. Here’s a good post I read from one of my favourite bloggers on her thoughts on it all.

Want to know how to be German in a restaurant?

My mate Tom reviews my favourite beer. I’m so glad he liked it too!

A German wife gets excited by a doodle-sack.

It’s June now but regardless, I love these monthly seasonal eating guides from Eating in Wiesbaden! I also wrote there recently about my favourite sushi places in Frankfurt. Check out my post here!

Ahhhh the Nintendo family tree. This has very impressive detail to it.

A really heartbreaking post about a mum dealing with her ‘special needs’ girl growing up and the difference in how people view her.

A great look into the strong female roles in Sailormoon!

Some good expat musings from my friend Sushi.

One more for the expats – what do you miss from your home country when it comes to summer? For me, I miss much more when it’s Christmas time. Summer is a bit meh for me.

Idiotic travel advice. I’ve been told some of this before as well. Let’s spread the word about clever travel!

I’ve seen a photo of this before and I really did want to go visit it…I guess I’ll have to wait a bit longer now.

Two 12 year olds stabbed their friend 19 times because of…slender man.

We don’t really have medieval or renaissance festivals in England, but they really do look like fun! I’d love to have this experience!

And lastly, a post about blogging through grief. There have been a few times I’ve been through things that are pretty hard and I’ve wanted to blog about them so much, but it’s always hard.

Comments

  1. The blogging through grief post was interesting. Some of the most heart-wrenching things I’ve ever written were about the death of someone close to me, but I did that back in the days of Ye Olde LiveJournal. On my current blog, I tend to mostly stay away from the superpersonal or introspective posts- they just don’t really fit the tone of most of what I write.

That being said, on those occasions where I have opened up the more personal or emotional stuff on my current blog, I usually get amazing feedback. I think this is because people aren’t expecting that window into the person behind the blog which is almost entirely fluff and frippery.

I might dip my toe into things soon. But like you I wonder if it’s really what my blog is all about.

  2. OMG, that Slenderman thing. WTF is WRONG with the world today?!

  3. Thank you so much for the link love! 😀 I’m going to post What to Eat in June next week – I’m determined to actually manage to get this one in before the end of the month 😉 Your sushi post has been very popular!

  4. Huh, that’s funny that you don’t have Ren Faires in Europe – I would have thought them to be even more common than in North America. I guess it’s us being nostalgic for a time we technically did not have. We also have Pioneer Villages though. My university town area boasts Robin in the Hood, Royal Medieval Faire and Fairy Fest.
I think we just really really really like dressing up.
