Thela Cambridge

I’ve walked past Thela so many times, and it’s always stood out to me. Firstly, anything with “street food” on it tells me that it MUST be good. I don’t know what it is about the phrase but it seems to be plastered on everything these days. Secondly, I have a huge soft spot for authentic Indian cuisine, and I love me a thali.

They have a few street food items on the menu, that sadly I didn’t try – I was too busy looking over the dosa at first. Big rice pancakes with curry inside – it’s my favourite comfort food. But there are a few places in Cambridge that do those already, and you don’t usually see thali – Indian meze – so I went for the vegetarian one of those.

It was OK. Some of the pots were really good, some I tried and then left. It’s always a gamble as you don’t know what will come out, but overall nothing was really amazing about it. It was just OK.

I’d like to give Thela another go, maybe try the street food items, or compare the dosa to my other two favourite dosa places. But I wouldn’t rush back for the thali.

There are so many great Indian places in Cambridge and aside from my beloved Banana Leaf I’ve not really found anywhere that does outstanding food. If you have any recommendations, do let me know!

You can find Thela at 94 Regent St, Cambridge CB2 1DP, or local food delivery apps.
