Vegan Pizza at Salisbury Arms

Vegan Pizza Cambridge

Alice, the queen of winning things, won a meal for two at the Salisbury Arms in Cambridge last week, and very kindly shared her winnings with me. It’s a place I’ve had a “one drink” date at before, but I’ve not eaten there yet, despite it being on my to-eat list.

Their “thing” is pizza, pots and pints – the pots being pots of stuff like mac and cheese. We were there to have pizza, but there were many other items on the menu I would like to go and try.

Their pizzas are all freshly made in their wood fire ovens, with thin, crisp crusts. Even though I usually go for the dirty, greasy, thick and chewy pizzas, the thin crust was bloomin’ wonderful.

I went for the Persia; a vegan pizza with a tahini base, with aubergine, radish and soy yoghurt.

My photo makes it look a lot drier than it actually was; I couldn’t fault it, and I didn’t feel at a loss for going for the vegan option. A really fun twist on what’s commonly thought of as pizzas.

By the way, if you love pizza and have feelings about it (I’m looking at you, “no pineapple” crew!) then you need to watch Ugly Delicious on Netflix; the first episode is all about pizza – what a pizza is, the history, and the movers and shakers in the pizza world.

But in the meantime, I’ll find you at The Salisbury Arms, grabbing some pizza. Mine’s a Merlot – it’s your round.
