Veggie Burgers of Cambridge: Novi

Novi Burger

I do love Novi food. They always think outside the box, and bring things that aren’t elsewhere (like their new taco menu). A while back, I tried their veggie burger.

So, what’s in this beauty? It’s a bean & walnut burger, avocado, swiss cheese, homemade burger relish, iceberg and tomato. Taste-wise, it’s bloody delicious. The cheese and the bean/walnut combo is the perfect umami explosion, and the toasted bun is a great vehicle for all this magic.

However, after a couple of bites, the burger patty fell apart. I spoke with Novi and they said it’s hard because they don’t want to add egg and make it not vegan, and they don’t want to deep fry it either to make it not as healthy. It’s totally understandable. But it did mean that I didn’t have a burger, I had a small pile of very delicious crumbs and some bread.

I wrote about Novi back when I first moved to Cambridge, and I mentioned that the staff were unfriendly there and that it wasn’t my favourite place. I’ve since been back many times, and they have a whole new set of people working there, with a new menu and new deals. I really like going there, and it’s really lovely to see a Cambridge business bloom and grow like Novi has. They have George’s cakes (which Instagram followers will know are the best cakes around) and Novi HQ has told me that they7re bringing in table service soon as well.

I’d say that now is the time to get on the Novi train, if you’ve not already.

  1. Well this looks delicious.

I have learned recently that Orlando is a hotspot for veggie and vegan restaurants. There’s a bunch around here. There’s one nearby that basically has vegetarian soul food that I’ve been meaning to check out. This is just a mile or two out-
